Welcome,
We are very enthused that you are visiting our site. The Sampson High School Alumni Association, Inc. is always striving to serve our youth and other citizens. Our main focus is our youth in that they are our future leaders.
The impact that the organization has made in serving our citizens has been phenomenal over the years. Our scholarship award has grown from $500 per year to two $6,000 and one $2,000 per year per, plus several smaller grants. We have partnered with a middle school to provide college tours for students in the eighth grade to give them an understanding of the vast career opportunities and requirements for college entrance and to get them better focused and prepared to excel prior to entering high school. In addition, we provide back to school supplies on an annual basis.
Sampson High School is rich with history and has left a legacy. It was the first black high school to serve Sampson County (North Carolina). In 2015 the school was identified as a historical Rosenwald School. SHSAA, Inc. has acquired its alma mater and is in the process of restoring the complex. Phase 1 of the restoration was the elementary school building which housed eight classrooms. This portion of the complex was converted into eight low income apartments that are fully occupied.
Phase Two of the restoration project was to be the cafeteria and main building. Our desire for these sections was to house the alumni headquarters, reception hall and other programs to serve the community. Unfortunately, that did not materialize prior to mother nature’s effect on the property. The buildings have now been demolished and Phase III is the planning of a Sampson High ‘Rosenwald School’ Memorial Park. The plans for the park have been drawn up and requests for bid proposals will soon be posted.
One may ask, how are we funding these projects? It is with the efforts of our nine chapters, along with, concerned and supporting citizens like you. The combined efforts of our chapters is our largest fundraiser, followed by our annual Golf Tournament. As you explore our sight you will find that we have launched an online giving portal to make it easier for our supporters to help with our endeavors. Remember this is a nonprofit organization and your contributions are tax deductible. We invite you to navigate through those fundraisers and we hope your heart will be opened to demonstrate your generosity to GIVE.
Please feel free to send to me an e-mail should you have any questions.
