SHSAA Announces Renaming of Scholarship in Honor of Leslie Earl Williams
The Sampson High School Alumni Association, Inc. is pleased to announce the renaming of the SHSAA Local Scholarship as The SHSAA Leslie Earl Williams Scholarship. On Sunday July 13, 2025, the SHSAA Executive Board voted to rename in honor of Leslie who was a graduate of Sampson High School.
Leslie was also a life member (#185) of the Sampson High School Alumni Association. His legacy lives on through this scholarship, which will continue to provide financial support to outstanding students in the Sampson County area pursuing post-secondary education.
Highlights of the Scholarship:
- Purpose: To assist graduating seniors or alumni entering post-secondary education via financial awards.
- Legacy: Named in honor of a lifelong SHSAA supporter whose idea sparked the origination of the scholarship fund.
- Impact: Since 1973, the SHSAA has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships, supporting hundreds of students and disbursing $14,000 annually.
