Deja McKelly
At-Large $6,000 Scholarship Recipient
Deja is a 2021 graduate of Reid Ross Classical High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Reid Ross High is a part of the Cum of Fayetteville. Deja is joining Bronco Nation this fall. She will become a proud enrollee at Fayetteville State University pursuing a degree in Social Work.
While in High School, she was a member of the chorus, Student Government Senior Representative, and a Peer Helper. Deja was an honor student graduating with a 3.5 weighted GPA and 3.4 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Deja’s Advanced Placement Literature Honors English Teacher describes her thusly: Bright and talented in English III and English IV Honors. She demonstrates exceptional academic potential and great leadership skills. She has a very good work ethic; she is a determined, diligent young lady who strives to obtain success in all she does. She witnessed Deja’s academic potential early in class. She consistently worked hard on every assignment maintaining an “A” average throughout the semester. In addition to being studious, she possesses great behavior traits. She is very reliable and conducts herself in a responsible way. She is kind and compassionate. Deja really is well-rounded, she is successful in all her tasks and will, no doubt, perform at the highest level to be successful in college. She demonstrates exceptional creativity and extraordinary academic and leadership skills. I am indeed honored to recommend her for this scholarship to assist her in expanding her educational experience.
To the question, Pursuing A College Degree, Is It Worth It, Deja submitted the following:
“Receiving this scholarship will boost my self- confidence, knowing that I took the responsibility of creating a foundation in to move myself closer to my career goals. I believe in the importance of earning a college degree. Therefore, I plan to work extra hard to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. The scholarship award will not only push me further towards my social work degree, but also my dreams of one day having a successful career as a Child and Family Social Worker.”
