At-Large $6000 Need-Based Scholarship Recipient
Daniel is a 2015 graduate of South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Daniel will enroll at Winston- Salem State University, Winston Salem, North Carolina in the fall. He has chosen Physical Therapy as his major.
Daniel received the following honors while a student at South View High School: Member of Student Government Association, Junior Varsity Baseball Team during Spring 2012 – 2013, Varsity Baseball Team – Spring 2014 – 2015, Honor Roll – Spring 2014 and Honor Roll in Fall 2014. His GPA was 3.10 out of a possible high of 4.0.
His high school counselor rated him highly intelligent with the ability to apply his knowledge in the classroom setting as well as in his daily life. She further states, “He engages others and actively seeks social interaction while simultaneously maintaining his academic workload.” She personally observed him develop both academically and personally into a mature young man ready in every way for his college years.
Daniel’s Marketing Teacher’s reference reveals that he has excellent character as a student and a person. He takes initiative in the classroom and in the school. He is willing to help anyone out if needed. In addition to his school involvement, he has a part time job. His work ethic, ability to manage his time and his GPA show that he has academic promise to succeed in the future. He is aware that he did not perform as well as he should have during his freshman year, but learned from that mistake and has done well since. He will do well in college.
“Pursuing a college degree is worth every penny,” Daniel states. “It is an investment in my future. College tuition is very expensive; so choosing a degree program that will allow me to find work in today’s job market is crucial.” He notes that going to WSSU is a smart decision. He wants a career that is interesting and one that he will enjoy. He pledges to make this experience worth every cent by working hard to become a great Physical Therapist.
