$2000 Academic Scholarship Recipient
Vinalyn is a 2014 graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, North Carolina. She will enroll at University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Pembroke, North Carolina in the fall and major in Nursing.
While in high school, Vinalyn earned three advanced placement credits in very rigorous courses at Sampson Community College: College Algebra , College Algebra Lab and Expository Writing. She is a member of the Beta Club, Science Club and the Student Government Association. She served as Secretary (10), Historian (11), Vice-President (12) and District 2 Parliamentarian (12) to HOSA, future health professionals club. She placed 3rd and a finalist on Career Health Display in HOSA competitions. She is certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
Her awards include: 1st place on Disease Detectives in Science Olympiad, Outstanding Academic Achievement, Career and Technical Educational Honor Society, Silver on ACT Workeys and Student with a Heart of Gold Award for exemplary performance in Biomedical Technology and Recipient of HOSA District 2 Scholarship.
Vinalyn is pursuing a high school education because she wants to achieve her dreams for herself and her role models. Her interest in the health field started with HOSA. She plans to become a Nurse Practitioner to help people of all ages. After completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing, she will return to work in Sampson Regional Hospital. She enjoys learning and practicing her nursing skills. She also wants to learn to be a well-rounded person.
She wants to do community service in order develop her leadership skills, make a difference and give back to other people while pursuing a higher education. She volunteers several hours a week at the Sampson County History Museum. Receiving a diploma is a “thank you note” to my parents, teachers, friends and other people who taught me the value of an education – the key to success.
On the campus of Clinton High, Vinalyn is characterized as active with a kind heart and a philanthropic spirit of giving. She pushes herself to do her very best in class surrounded by other students who hold a high value for dedication and integrity. When others are in need, she readily provides support and encouragement. Her family came to Clinton from the Philippine islands in search of a better life. She is grateful for this scholarship and certainly will be a contributing member of society.
