Local $6,000 Need-Based Scholarship Recipient
Markaysia is a 2019 graduate of Clinton High School, Clinton, North Carolina. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina – Charlotte, North Carolina pursuing a concentration in the medical field.
At Clinton High, she was a member of the Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, History Club, National Honor Society and the CTE Honor Society. She served as a volunteer in the soup kitchen and the Christian Food Bank of Salemburg, North Carolina. Markaysia was clarinet section leader for the Marching Band and also played in the concert band. She participated in: JV Volleyball and Varsity softball and tutored students while maintaining a very high grade point average.
The College Advisor and Coordinator of Scholarships of Clinton High School described her as an excellent student who should do extremely well in a college setting. “Ms. Hobbs is a young woman of very good character who displays it inside and outside the classroom, writes her EMT teacher. I trust her to do the right thing when it comes down to it. That is why she was chosen to serve as second in command as a Lieutenant and first in command as a Captain in my EMT I and EMT II classes. Markaysia is a leader and fulfilling those roles showed that she has what it takes as a person to be the leader that she has the potential to be.
Markaysia provides an answer to the question - Is pursuing a college degree worth It? She believes it is well worth the investment. A college degree increases the chances of getting a better paying job; provides satisfaction and job security, increases opportunities for financial success, offers chances to expand one’s world and instill pride in the family and permits younger siblings to see a model in the making.
