Local $6,000 Need-Based Scholarship Recipient
Destiny is the Local $6000 SHSAA Scholarship Winner. She is a 2017 graduate of Hobbton High School, Newton Grove, North Carolina. She plans to attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina to pursue a B.S. Degree in Animal Science.
Destiny was very involved both in and out of the classroom while at Hobbton High School. She has a GPA of 4.6777 out of 4.729. She is ranked number 2 in the Class of 2017 with graduates totaling 127. Her academic awards include: Goodnight Scholar Nominee’ Park Scholar Nominee, Governor’s School Nominee, Governor’s School Attendee for Instrumental Music, Senior Top Ten, Junior Marshal; Member of Beta Club, Academic All Star, Principal’s List, Highest Freshman Average and Honor Roll.
Her extracurricular activities were numerous from grades 9 – 12. She was Soloist in Governor’s School East Instrumental Music Program, Miss Congeniality in Miss Hobbton 2016 Pageant, Soloist in High School Concert and Marching Band, International Thespian Society, Varsity Cheerleader, Varsity Soccer Player, Bird Girl in HHS Production Seussical: The Musical, Mama Bear in HHS Production, Shrek, The Musical, Serena in the HHS Production of Legally Blonde, The Musical, Female Ensemble in Les Miserables, Show Choir Member and Soloist, Drama Club Member, Hobbton High School Concert and Marching Band Member and Student of Month for Kindness.
Destiny listed her most influential work experience as a week-long mission trip to Manassas, Virginia during her sophomore year. She recounts that each day she was assigned a different task. Her specific assignments were working in a nursing home performing cosmetic improvements, assisting in the preparation of meals and working for Habitat for the Humanity ReStore building shelves and painting the logo for the store on the wall. She concludes that she felt closest to God that week when she was serving others and that she is extremely grateful for all that God has provided for her.
When asked, why are you pursuing higher education? Destiny believes that college is the pinnacle of a young adult’s life for two reasons -the excitement of a new routine and the opportunity of higher learning. Pursing a college degree is challenging, yet beneficial, but knowledge is priceless. A college education leads to increased chances for more profitable and meaningful employment.

I have enjoyed having her in my class. She works harder than any student I have and she deserves this grant. She has earned everything she has gotten. She is a leader in every situation she is in. I believe she would excel to the utmost of her ability in any academic setting. I hope and pray that my children will one day grow up to be half the person she is. I recommend her 100%.” She has great character. She volunteers and has a great faith. She shows sooooo much promise. You will be blessed and lucky to have her as a representative for your grant.”
