At-Large $6000 Need-Based Scholarship Recipient
Zaynah Shamsid-Deen Muhammad winner of a $6000 scholarship. She is a 2017 graduate of Warith Deen Mohammed High School of Conyers, Georgia was awarded the $6000 At-Large need- based SHSAA Scholarship. Zaynah planned to attend Hampton University in Hampton, Virgina in the fall to pursue a degree in Nursing.
Her high school involvement includes president of Powerful Youth In Charge, Mock Trial President, Senior Class President, Principal’s Honor Roll, member of Black Girls Write and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Explorers Program. She was the recipient of the Leadership Award and the Citizenship Award. She graduates with a GPA of 3.480 out of a possible 4.0.
To the question, “A College Education, Is it Worth the Cost?” Zaynah replied, that to really understand the benefits of a college education, one should pursue it purely to expand the knowledge and skill base. The real expectation now is to go beyond a four-degree. The college educational experience shapes the individual as well. It is in college that many discover their passion. College offers networking where one meets new people who become lifelong friends or eventual business associates and connections. Although there are people with college degrees who do not always have jobs, research shows that having a college degree increases the chances of employment, career choices and a new sense of self which justifies the cost.
Zaynah’s Pre-Calculus Teacher says that “She is of sound moral character, makes good decisions and is
well-rounded and balanced. She is highly motivated, intellectually adept young lady engaged in learning at the highest level. She works well where there is diversity, is extremely conscientious about her work, presents accurate, thorough explicit assignments, is a leader among her peers, yet, is also a team player. Zaynah has a very creative mind, and seems to derive joy from “thinking outside the box.” Academically, she has always held her own, taken advanced classes when available and done what was needed to achieve. In comparison with other college prep students in the teacher’s classes, Zaynah was rated excellent. She has the highest average of all of his students. She frequently seeks to find alternative and innovative solutions to problems that are solved in class, and quite often, she is successful. She possesses superior analytical and reasoning skills. She grasps complex topics and performs detailed lengthy calculations quickly with relative ease. Zaynah, who is congenial and amicable, is highly admired and respected by both her classmates and the faculty.
